The Adventure of Prayer

images"I've been a Christian for a number of years now but I find prayer so utterly boring." So said Mark, a man who was seeking help in prayer. What he lacked was an approach to building a more effective prayer life, for without such, Mark's rate of progress in the Christian life was severely disempowered. Like Mark, if we don't pray then we don't grow spiritually.

Therefore the three sessions of Adventures in Prayer have been designed to enable us all to engage with God by looking at His Word and to examine and explore once again the power and wonder of prayer. It is not just theoretical however. There will be plenty of time given to discuss together practical approaches to prayer that can be used to help us all grow in Christ.

Using Bill Hybel's book 'Too Busy Not To Pray' as the core text, over the 3 sessions the following will be considered:

The adventure of invitation

  • God's peace and power
  • God is willing and able
  • Heart-Building habits
  • Praying like Jesus

The adventure of seeing

  • A pattern for praying
  • Mountain-moving prayer
  • The hurt of answered prayer
  • Prayer busters
  • Colling off on prayer

The adventure of communication

  • Slowing down to pray
  • The importance of listening
  • How to hear God's leading
  • Living in God's presence
